Last week, Laura Marquez received the keys to her Habitat
for Humanity home in the City of Lynwood. Laura brought her kids along,
however she did not tell them that the house was ready. She told them that she had to sign
additional papers and then, once they got there, surprised them by handing her
daughter the keys and telling her to open the door to their new home! The kids
were so happy and immediately began making plans for everything they would like
to do in their new house... Their smiles
from that day say it all.
We asked Laura to tell us how it feels to be a new
homeowner.
“I am still in
shock. It’s surreal and feels like we’re
staying in a vacation rental. My
children are so happy and this experience has actually united them, it’s fantastic! When I began the
application process 15 months ago, I never completely thought it would happen
for us. I was fearful that it was too
good to be true, and if it was true, that I would not qualify. All along the way, everyone at Habitat for
Humanity of Greater Los Angeles was there for us, helping us get our paperwork
completed and answering questions if I had any.
We all have so much pride in where we live now, which is something we
did not have before. It’s going to be so wonderful to have friends and family
over for the holidays!”
Thank you, Laura! We couldn’t be more happy for you and your
beautiful family.
